You are having difficulties reopening a multisample or bank file in Korg Sample Builder after you spent hours and hours setting them up and adjusting loop points?

This can really freak you out. I feel you.

It cost me countless hours to find out what was causing the error.
Maybe I can help you out with a brief tutorial.

If you are experiencing the error “Unable to read file” while opening a multisample or a korgbank file in Sample Builder keep reading.

First check your directory structure.
The official manual is not exactly clear that there are dos and don’ts.

Let’s take a look at an excerpt …

Well, at first I thought: man, that’s easy. Just go ahead. Piece of cake.
I was wrong.
Even support didn’t notice what was going on, so I decided to dig into this.
Trial and Error for what felt like ages.

Step 1

Keep your samples in a directory below where you want to save the multisample. Do NOT name the directory like the multisample!!!
Don’t even think about it.

Step 2

Do not use velocity samples!
Just ONE sample per key – otherwise you will run into the exact same error and you are doomed when you try to re-open your multisample file

That’s it.
